    Originally from Albuquerque, NM, Lucas Sanchez enjoys a multi-faceted career as a percussionist, timpanist, and teacher. Lucas Sanchez received his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Rice University where he was awarded the 2016 Louis Sudler Prize in the Arts and the Sallie Shepherd Prize for Best Achievement in Music. He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Miami as a Henri Mancini Orchestra Fellow, studying with Matthew Strauss and Svetoslav Stoyanov. In this four-part series of instructional videos presented by Palm Beach Symphony, principal timpani player Lucas Sanchez explores Fundamentals for Timpani Tuning (Part 1), Holding Mallets and Playing Rolls (Part 2), Snare Drum Techniques (Part 3), and Fun Scale Exercises for Mallet Instruments (Part 4).
